Hokovce

Hokovce is a village in Slovakia in the district of Levice, about 15km from the border town Šahy, at the confluence of the Veperec and Štiavnica streams. The oldest documented findings, documenting the settlement of this area, originate from the Neolithic and the Middle Bronze Age. The settlement was already at the junction of important roads in the Middle Ages, so it had a customs and city rank. Hokovce is one of the oldest settlements in Hontian County.

There are pubs, restaurants and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool right in the village. It is a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute drive from Dudince spa with a range of leisure activities and many restaurants and cafés. On the way, you can visit the wine cellars of the local vineyard where you can taste the wines and relax in the classic wine houses. In the summer months, we also recommend visiting the Dudinka swimming pool for all visitors.

Spa Dudince

The city's springs were already known and used by the man of the Stone Age. Since ancient times, they have used the 22 small primitive pools attributed to the Romans by the locals. According to the Slovak folk tradition, Dudinka's fairy healed the son of the great Roman commander, Aquilia, and promised that if he had peace in the area, he would make lands in the depths of forests and plant vines. The fact that Roman soldiers stationed in nearby fortresses really used the bath cannot be proved.

It was first mentioned in "Dyud" in 1284, when it was owned by local nobles. The old owner of the settlement was the Földváry family, in the 18th century the family of Szulyovszky, then the families of Zmeskall and Oberndorf turned from the main owners. In 1828, 19 houses were inhabited by 112 people.

Its 30 °C carbonated, sulfuric, alkaline water is used to treat rheumatism, its first scientific description is described by György Wernher in a memo of a balneologist in 1549. In 1777, Professor Crantz wrote about the sour water and thermal baths here, and later on, in the works of several renowned professionals. The first open-air bath and drinking hall was built in 1909 by Count Oberndorf. Sulfuric mineral water was bottled between 1909 and 1924 and shipped abroad. From 1966, its spa was built as a major resort, making it one of the most popular resorts in Slovakia. Its water is mainly used for the treatment of rheumatic diseases.
